A raised box that will not lower is a hazard as well as a breakdown, so block or prop it and keep everyone out from under it until someone is there. Most hoist faults are a PTO air shift line, a control cable, a stuck valve spool or a blown hose, and all of those are fixed where the truck is sitting at $130/hour.

Work back from the simplest thing. Is there hydraulic oil in the tank and is it up to level with the box down? Then PTO: does it engage, and can you hear the pump load? A PTO that will not engage, an air shift line that has failed, a control cable off its lever, or a stuck valve spool will all give you a hoist that does nothing. Treat a raised box as dangerous until it is safely down or properly propped. A box that will not lower is usually a stuck control valve, a bound cylinder, debris in the way, or a load hung up at the front of the box. Never get under a raised box that is not blocked. Do not drive it raised, and watch for overhead lines. This is a normal mobile call and we would rather come to a raised box than hear about a dropped one.

Tailgate latches, the dogs, are usually mechanical or air operated. Common causes are a seized or bent latch pin, worn or misadjusted linkage, a failed air cylinder or a broken air line, ice in winter, or simply load pressure holding the gate shut. Do not stand behind a loaded gate while working on it. We free, adjust or replace tailgate latch gear and air cylinders on site, and this is a same visit fix far more often than not.

Slow-under-load usually points at a worn pump, a relief valve setting, restricted suction, or air in the system — occasionally just badly low fluid, which itself means a leak. It's a classic on-site diagnosis: pressure-test, isolate, and repair at the truck rather than losing the truck to a shop queue.

We stock common hose and fittings for emergency repairs, and the Langley–Surrey corridor's hose shops can make up anything beyond that same-day. Either way the hose that goes on is rated for the circuit it serves, routed and protected properly, and billed at supplier cost.
